Why doesn't the FDA remove harmful drugs from the market?

Law Offices of James Sokolove, LLC

On all these matters that we are talking about, whether we are talking about fen-phen or gadolinium or any of these pharmaceuticals that are having problems in the market, the difficulty is that the FDA has a tremendous amount of staff and goes through tremendous process to decide whether something should be allowed on the market. The difficulty is that once its on the market, the FDA does not have enough staff to monitor if there are events to see if these medications should be pulled off the market. The pharmaceuticals have such power with the FDA that the consumer does really not have a fair chance. Thus, the FDA is not a real watchdog we can rely on right now. I'm attorney Jim Sokolove. Why was Digitech pulled off of the drug market?

Girardi & Keese Lawyers

Some people were prescribed and took Digitek. This is one of the great, terrible travesties that ever happened, because the Digitek that was sold was twice the strength of the Digitek that was approved. The FDA didn't bless this drug. The FDA blessed a drug that was half this strength, and it caused massive problems: heart attack, stroke, etc. And so the Digitek cases are very, very important. Once the FDA notified the company who makes Digitek that they are putting out the wrong stuff, it took them like a year and a half to finally withdraw from the market. Can you believe that sort of conduct? My name is Tom Girardi. I'm the senior partner of Girardi/Keese. For the past 44 years, we have helped people in California who've been seriously harmed. I'm very proud of the work we've done and the role that we have played.

What should I do if I was prescribed Byetta?

Girardi & Keese Lawyers

Tom Girardi: If you're a person whose physician prescribed Byetta, and a lot of well meaning doctors did because after all the drug was approved by the FDA. And if in fact you ended up with pancreatic problems, that's the type of situation that you should probably have investigated by a good lawyer who knows this area of the law. My name is Tom Girardi.
